Galway city senior hurling side Liam Mellows had an important 1-16 to 0-14 victory over Cappataggle in a top table clash in their Senior A - Group 1 game last weekend.
That win sees Mellows in a strong position to reach the county quarter-finals directly and a victory in the last group clash would confirm that last eight spot.
In the same group, Craughwell were 4-19 to 1-14 winners over Tommy Larkins and they too will qualify for the quarter-finals if they win their last group game. The other game in that group saw Loughrea narrow one point winners over Mullagh on a 0-21 to 0-20 score-line.
In Senior A - Group 2 Gort are joint top of that table now alongside Sarfields after their 2-11 to 2-10 win over bottom of the table Pádraig Pearses who have lost their last three games narrowly after drawing their first round game with Portumna.
Sarsfields were far too strong for Turloughmore winning by 15 points on a final score-line of 3-17 to 0-11. And St Thomas had a crucial 1-21 to 1-14 win over Portumna.
In Group 1 in Senior B there were big wins for TAD over Carnmore, Clarinbridge beat Beagh and table toppers Castlegar made it four wins out of four with a 1-21 to 1-16 win over Ardrahan.
In Group 2 in Senior B - table toppers Kilnadeema-Leitrim were defeated by Killimordaly by six points on a score-line of 2-25 to 3-16.
Maigh Cuilinn had a solid 3-15 to 1-10 win over Ahascragh-Fohenagh to keep their qualification hopes alive, and Athenry defeated Abbeyknockmoy by 1-18 to 0-15 to keep the Abbey lads rooted at the bottom of the table with no points from four games.
