SHE HAS been called "one of the most remarkable new singer-songwriters in the Czech Republic" by Milan Tesar in Magazin UNI. Today she is baed in Galway and about to play the Galway Fringe Festival.
Agu - "I was given the name Agnieszka, but because I’ve moved a lot and lived outside of my motherland most of my life, people have called me different names. Agu stuck with me the most," as she told An Áit Eile - plays The Quays Music Hall on Wednesday July 19, with Vincent Hughes on guitar and Brazilian music producer Polar Archives on electronics.
Born in Poland, she lived in Prague for many years, where she started to write music. Her sound is grounded in indie-folk, with strong post-rock and ambient influences. Using a loop station, various effects, and vocal harmonies, she creates layers of atmospheric sound, and sings in a variety of languages.
In 2015 she released her debut album Ke Svetlu (Towards The Light ) on German-Czech independent label Yannick South. It was awarded Tais Awards Harvest Prize 2015, an independent Czech music award.
