Tomorrow's Eamonn Deacy Park clash against Limerick FC is the latest vital encounter for Galway United as they look to avoid relegation from the SSE Airtricity League premier division.
Last Friday United came from behind once again as substitute Padraic Cunningham netted a late equaliser against St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.
A deflected Conan Byrne goal gave Pat's a scarcely deserved lead, but United recovered to force a draw. Ultimately it was a match United should have won, according to manager Shane Keegan.
"There was a couple of really good chances. Thank God we got something out of the game because it would've been criminal if we didn't. I do think we did enough to get all three, truth be told.
"You look back on the game, the combination of Conor O'Malley making the best saves I've seen against us this year, and then Vinny Faherty's header off the woodwork, Ronan Murray had one he put one over the crossbar that he really would've fancied his chances with," Keegan says.
Now United face Limerick and Drogheda United in their next two fixtures. Points need to be accumulated quickly by the Tribesmen.
"It is a big opportunity for us. If any of the teams down around the bottom put two wins together, it can change the picture for them," Keegan admits.
"I suppose given the current situation it is a must win. If we could go to get a result in the Limerick game before the Drogheda game, it would put us in a good position in terms of picking up the three points and the confidence levels would be good heading into Drogheda. No doubt, it's a big couple of weeks."
Keegan is targeting being out of the relegation zone by the beginning of August. Before then United face Limerick, Drogheda, Cork City, and Finn Harps.
"It's a huge period in the season for us, we've set our target by the final whistle in that Finn Harps game and we would've liked to have all three from Friday night, but at least we have something to show from it," Keegan states. "Four to six points from the next two games would have us right on track to get that tally."
United remain rooted to the bottom of the table, but are only four points behind Sligo Rovers, who lie in eighth place. The Bit O’Red defeated Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds on Sunday evening.
"Sligo got an unexpected win and it's amazing the confidence boost that it gives around the place, it gives them a bit of breathing space for a week or two.
"Things can change so quickly, we've strung three or four really good performances together and we've shown we are a team capable of going on and picking up back-to-back wins.
"There is no doubt we still have it within us to get ourselves out of where we are, I have no doubt about that whatsoever. It's just turning those performances into points and being more ruthless. There is no point being the better team unless you're coming away with the three points."
