Galway film Wild Fire Nights to premiere @ Fleadh

Directorial debut from Galway actor Emma Eliza Regan

WILD FIRE Nights, a hard-hitting contemporary drama written and directed by Galway actor Emma Eliza Regan, receives its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh when it is screened as part of the Way Out West strand.

The film centres around Lila, a rudderless destructive millennial, caught up in a vacuous lifestyle, until an alarming discovery forces her to face the consequences of her actions. The film also deals with the topical issue of abortion rights in Ireland, and with what Regan calls “the selfie generation and all the questions that surround the effects of that”.

Wild Fire Nights cast includes award winning actor Gerard McSorley (In The Name Of The Father, Veronica Guerin ); Galway born IFTA award winning actor Dara Devaney (An Klondike ), David Murray (Amber, The Guarantee ) and James Browne (Without Name, Maze ). The soundtrack was composed by BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated Ilan Eskheri (Young Victoria ).

Speaking of her first time directing, Regan says: "It was completely different, but you just roll up your sleeves and get it done - the most challenging part of it having to be responsible for all the different aspects, everything from discussing equipment and lenses, the production side of things, making calls for the insurance, and then switching into playing a character with no direction. It was a tiny and tight crew, and we all just worked really hard as a team. It's a long process."

Regan appeared as the lead in the 2016 thriller Ouija: The Insidious Evil for Shoreline Entertainment last year alongside Dominique Swaine (Alpha Dog, Lolita ) and received critical acclaim for her role in 2015's Darkness On The Edge Of Town opposite Brian Gleeson.

Wild Fire Nights will be screened in the Radisson Blu Hotel as part of the Way Out West strand from 2.30pm on Wednesday July 12.
