SPIRIT OF The West - traditional music, songs, and dance, a new show produced and directed by folk singer Matt Keane, along with Colm Naughton, comes to The Claregalway Hotel this month.
The shows, which take place on Saturday July 22 and Sunday 23 at 8pm, will feature Matt Keane, his daughter Orlaith Keane; fiddler Maria Fahy, who has worked with Citizens Keane and Michael Commins shows; Kenny Fahy on bodhrán; Pádraic Keane (TG4 Young Musician of the Year 2011 ) on uileann pipes, whistles, and wooden flute; Conor Connolly from Clarinbridge, on accordion, who is also a musician in residence for Tunes in the Church in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church.
Also performing are pianist and violinist Catherine McHugh, who has played with Sean Keane; the Abbeyknockmoy Set Dancers, led by Marie Greaney, whose daughter, Emily will be dancing and playing harp at the show. Special guest on the two nights will be Pat Keane.
Colm Naughton, a guitarist, mandolinist, and banjo player, has, along with Matt, devised the show to highlight the music and song traditions of the western region, with a section dedicated to the music and singing traditions of Caherlistrane's Keane family.
