FOLLOWING THE success of the Bingo night in Nova to raise funds for the 2017 Galway Community Pride festival, two further evenings of “number calling” are being organised for July 5 and 19.
As regards other events, the Pride committee is looking for X Factor wannabees for Pride Idol with heats taking place on July 20 and 27 with the finals on August 3. The winner will receive a cash prize and a spot on the main stage at the Saturday Street Party! July 30 will see teams take to the streets to battle it out in the Gaymazing Race - a treasure hunt around Galway city with a difference!
All money raised is going back into the community with the organisation of the different events during Pride itself, which takes place form August 7 to 13. Monday sees the launch with a flag raising and parties in the Róisín Dubh and Nova, along with entertainment from The Divas. Tuesday will be an educational night and Wednesday will see discussions on LGBT+ mental health and hold a remembrance service for lost loved ones.
Thursday will celebrate the diversity of the community with a BTQIA+ night followed by Cheesy Pop Tunes in the Róisín Dubh. Friday sees a comedy night in The Loft, followed by DJ Inertia. Saturday will see the Pride parade, culminating in a street party in the West End sponsored and supported by Nova. There will also be events on the Sunday. See galwaypride.com
