THEY BEGAN as an unrepentant blue-rock power trio, they then evolved into a full on roots-rock band. Today the sound is progressive and not afraid to get ambient. They are The Deans.
The Galway trio, led by the gifted Athenry guitarist Gavin Dean, continue their restless musical exploration when they play the Róisín Dubh on Saturday July 8 at 9pm - their first show in their native county this year.
The band will be showcasing new songs and sounds, and also new arrangements of older material from their last two EPs. So what is the new sound like? "It's more progressive and ambient with our use of delays, synthesizer, and growling sub-bass," explains Gavin. "Behind the ambience are strong grooves and a yarn of melodic hooks, accompanied by the spirits of Huxley, Welles, Otis Rush, DeMille, and his Greatest Show On Earth, laying out the red carpet and guiding the sonic mayhem to an LFO somewhere at the bottom of the world!"
Expect the unexpected, then. The band is also working on an EP for release in the autumn. Rolling Stone - France called them "Rock? Folk? Pop? It’s all there. And plenty of it!..Their style, their sound and their presence is truly captivating."
