Haji Mike to headline world music event

Night of dub reggae in Áras na nGael

DUB REGGAE musician, poet, academic, Haji Mike is something of a renaissance man in the dub scene, and he will be bringing his words and music to the It's A Worldwide Ting event in Galway next month.

Haji Mike, will be joined by Al-Jive Mestizo, Destitute, Si Tom, Rozie Loopz, Warren Lucy, Judgemental, Channelle Marzouk, and MC Rungus, in Áras na nGael, Dominick Street, on Friday July 7 from 6pm.

From Cyprus, Haji Mike's style could be described as progressive dub and dub poetry. He began on the London underground scene in the early 1990s, inspired by LKJ and Benjamin Zephaniah. As a DJ, Haji Mike has appeared on the BBC Andy Kershaw world music show and features on Greekbeat Radio and OMY Radio each week. Haji has had hits with his tracks 'Stavroulla' and 'Vrakaman'. He has also released the album, One Summer. He is also an assistant professor at The University of Nicosia, where he teaches media and communications. As a musician and an academic he has been around the world, either performing or lecturing.
