Niamh Regan - New EP and Róisín Dubh gig

Singer's 'first ever solo show of original material in my hometown'

NIAMH REGAN, the County Galway singer-songwriter, nominated for Best Solo Female Act by Pure M magazine this year, will launch of her new EP in the Róisín Dubh next week.

The 22-year-old from Kilrickle, east Galway, is an alt.pop/folk-rock singer and guitarist. She is no stranger to critical acclaim. Nialler9 described her voice as "commanding and wise", and compared her to This Is The Kit, Laura Marling, and Karen Dalton.

The Irish Times said she had a "sweet, pure folk voice bursting with potential"; Pure M said: "Both her lyrics and her approach to composing vocal melodies remind me very much of folk giant Richard Thompson; poetic, beautiful and understated but the nonetheless incredibly powerful."

She officially launched the new EP in April with a gig in Whelans, before performing a run of small shows in Los Angeles. The Galway gig, which takes place in the upstairs bar of the Róisín, will be "my first ever solo show of original material in my hometown".

Last year Niamh played the Body&Soul main stage at Electric Picnic. She cites Paul Brady, Tom Waits, Josh Ritter, and Karen Dalton, as among her influences.

The show is on Thursday June 29 at 9pm with support from Steven Sharpe. Admission is free. See www.niamhregan.com
