College robbery

Gardai in Ballygar and Ballinasloe are investigating an incident in which the school office in St Mary’s College in Ballygar was damaged and cash stolen in a robbery last Thursday morning.

On Wednesday night the 7th of June, going in to the early hours of Thursday morning the 8th of June, thieves broke into the premises, ransacked the office and breached the school safe, causing a considerable amount of damage in the process.

The alarm system and CCTV equipment was targetted and smashed.

The incident has shocked locals and an appeal has been made for any information that might help apprehend the culprits.

Walk this Saturday and raise funds for Blue Teapot

Fancy a walk in nature, while raising funds for Blue Teapot? Then this Saturday June 17 is the date for a sponsored walk along the Burren’s Flaggy Shore along with members of Salthill Rotary Club.

There are two distances to choose from - the long walk starts from near Linnanes Bar New Quay and takes about four hours. A shorter walk starts near New Quay Church and takes about two hours. Both walks are relatively easy, with only minor inclines, therefore suitable for any walkers with a disability.

The walks start at around 10.30 am and all are welcome to participate. Participants and staff will join walkers from Salthill Rotary Club and we’re extremely grateful to be their nominate charity for their annual walk.

Loughrea criminal damage

Gardai in Loughrea are investigating an incident in which a car was damaged in the town last week.

At some time in the early hours of last Wednesday night June 7 a car was damaged in the Baunoge estate, Mount Pleasant, Loughrea.

The passenger window of the silver Volkswagen Polo was smashed.

Renmore robbery

City gardai are looking for help in finding the intruders who broke into a house in Renmore last Wednesday.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 7 a house in Hawthorn Drive in Renmore was entered by an intruder .

The house was ransacked and property disturbed. The culprit entered the house through a downstairs window which was left in an open locked position.

Did you lose two gold rings?

On Tuesday, May 23 two gold rings were found in Athenry town and were handed in to Athenry Garda Station.

One ring is a gold band with a small design; the other is a gold band also with a single stone mounted on top.
