We need more women in electronic music

DJ and production workshops for women, female identifying, and LGBTQ

GALWAY WOMEN, female identifying, and the LGBTQ community are encouraged to take part in this weekend's DJ and production workshops n the Galway Arts Centre, Dominick Street.

Workshops take place this Sunday from 3pm to 7pm, and while open to all and all age groups, are aimed specifically at women, female identifying, and LGBTQ, to encourage their greater involvement in electronic music. Teachers will be ELLLL, Lolz, and Aoife NicCanna.

The workshops are being run by Smirnoff in association with Gash Collective, a collective focused on providing a platform for women DJs, producers, and women involved in left-field electronics in Ireland, to create a platform where women feel comfortable to create, share, and collaborate together in the field of electronica.

According to a sample study conducted by THUMP, women only made up an average 17 per cent of headliners in 2016 at music festivals around the world.
