The Social Democrats have selected two local area representatives for the Galway East region with Rob Partridge representing the Loughrea electoral ward and Susan McGrady representing the Oranmore and Athenry ward.
Mr Partridge is a resident of Loughrea and is the current chair of Galway Community Pride. Both he and Mrs McGrady were supporters of Niall Ó Tuathail during his election campaign for 2016. Mr Ó Tuathail ran in Galway West and gained a total of 5,278 votes, lasting until the 11th count.
“I was very much disappointed by the choice of candidates in my locality and rather than just continue to moan I decided to try to effect change,” said Mr Partridge. Mrs McGrady said: “I was drawn to the Social Democrats during the last national elections because of their determination to bring openness and transparency to politics in Ireland. I’m tired of seeing the most vulnerable among us fall under the radar, and I want to be involved with the party that are going to change that.”
