Future Islands - countdown to Black Box concert

FUTURE ISLANDS, the indie-electro, synth-pop trio, whose music is one part melancholic, one part euphoric; led by the impassioned vocals and endearingly dodgy 'dad dancing' of Samuel T Herring, are coming to Galway.

The Baltimore group - Herring (vocals ), William Cashion (bass/guitars ), and Gerrit Welmers (keyboards/programming/guitars ) play the Black Box Theatre on Wednesday July 5 at 7.30pm.

The band came to wide attention with their acclaimed 2014 album Singles, which contained the hit single 'Seasons (Waiting on You )' - picked as the best track of 2014 by NME, Pitchfork, and Spin. In April, the band released the eagerly awaited follow-up, The Far Field, which featured a duet with Debbie Harry. Pitchfork said of the new album: "Future Islands are beyond reinvention. Instead, they tap into the emotion that runs deep under their synth-pop, and the results are more cathartic and devastating than ever."

In describing the band's popular and iconic frontman, the website added: "Samuel T Herring has an energy, a physical aura, that moves along a single line. On one end is a hangdog character with tucked-in shirt and pleated khakis and on the other is an ursine man-monster wresting primordial sounds from his heart."

The is a 'Róisín Dubh presents...' event. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, The Róisín Dubh, and the town Hall Theatre (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ).
