Summer is upon us once more and luckily we've been blessed with some of the finest weather we've seen this year over the past few weeks. While it would be foolish to take the ever fitful Irish weather for granted, it's important to get out and make the most of the balmy conditions while we have them. There are few better places in Ireland to do so than Galway city and its surrounding countryside. Why go on holiday when there is so much on offer in your own backyard? Even if the weather does betray us yet again, there are plenty of indoor activities to get stuck into too.
There are some great activities to take part in for both adults and children, catering for a wide variety of interests. Classifieds.advertiser.ie is here to help you choose which best suits you.
Summer Camps
Summer camps are a great way to keep active over the summer and there is always one for everyone. Whether your child likes singing, dancing, football, hurling or even something different entirely, they will find kids with similar interests at the many summer camps around Galway. The opportunity to make new friends while doing what they love is something all children would remember fondly in years to come.
Rock Climbing
You don't have to be like Sylvester Stallone in Cliffhanger to enjoy rock climbing. Galway has some magnificent rock faces where mentors will be on hand to guide beginners through their ascent step by step. Experience the thrill of reaching the top of a rock face through grit and determination, battling against any obstacles it may have in store. It's important that if you're not an experienced climber that you have an expert with you at all times that can help guide you through your climb and can provide the necessary safety equipment. If you have all that, then why not give it a go?
Cycling
There are plenty of cycling routes scattered around Galway for cyclists to enjoy. Clifden is home to a few of these, a looping route that takes you past Clifden castle and out by the bay is not be missed. Another cycling route beside Gort provides another opportunity to get onto your favourite two wheeled vehicle and go for a spin. Galway city itself has plenty of bikes that you can rent out to cycle around and explore the city.
Scuba Diving
People from nearly any age can experience what scuba diving has to offer and take a dip into the deep blue unknown. Beginners can start off in sheltered areas before gradually working their way up to a higher level when they feel more comfortable. You will learn basic diving skills and how to communicate underwater, all under the watchful eyes of your instructor. There are courses that you can then commit to where you'll go on to take part in real open water dives.
Galway has all this and much more to offer so instead of spending your free time on the couch this summer, why not get up and get active? You certainly won't regret it.
