Top global architect to speak at Chamber summer lunch

Galway Chamber, along with sponsors KPMG will host Jacok Kurek, partner in Henning Larsen Architects at the Galway Chamber Summer Business Lunch.

Mr Kurek will speak on liveable cities for people and how to create them. The networking lunch will be held in the Connacht Hotel, Dublin Road, Galway on Friday May 26 at 12.30 pm.

The event will also host the launch of the Galway Chamber 2040 Strategy Document entitled: ‘Galway 2040, Towards a Shared Future’.

At a time when Galway is looking to attract business, both indigenous and FDI, it never been more important to address the whole issue of liveable cities, to make Galway a place for business, investment and crucially, people.

Jacob Kurek is Partner in Henning Larsen Architects and Principal for the Middle East. Jacob was stationed in Riyadh from 2008 to 2012 where he set up Henning Larsen Middle East and was responsible for the company’s projects in the Arabian Peninsula. In 2010, he was nominated as one of the top 5 most influential architects in Saudi Arabia.

‘Galway 2040, Towards a Shared Future’ is the work of the Galway Chamber’s Strategy Committee, led by Mike Devane and Dermot Nolan. The document is a bright, lively infographic mapping the progress of Galway as it develops and transforms over the next twenty years. Supported by GMIT, it is based on the premise that building an expanded city and doubling the population of Galway city and county requires a considered, challenging and shared vision by all its people.

Kyne commenda Udaras on Brexit scheme

Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs and Natural Resources Seán Kyne has commended Údarás na Gaeltachta for launching a new €100,000 scheme to help Gaeltacht-based companies prepare for Brexit. Údarás na Gaeltachta, an agency funded largely by the Gaeltacht section of the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has launched a new campaign, ‘Bí Reidh’ (Be Ready ).

“This new support scheme from Údarás will see €100,000 invested to help at least twenty Údarás client companies prepare for Brexit. Each company, including several based in Galway’s Gaeltacht, will receive funding to help develop an action plan for Brexit.

“The Scheme is targeted specifically at companies whose exports to Britain and Northern Ireland account for a fifth or more of total sales. “Given the uncertainty regarding Brexit, I commend Údarás for introducing this Scheme, particularly given that almost a quarter of all exports by Údarás client companies are to the UK.

““This funding will help companies that are most exposed to Brexit to prepare and work out how best to take advantage of any opportunities Brexit may bring as well as the challenges it will bring. I encourage all eligible Údarás client companies to apply for this extra support,” he said.
