Despite the world economic uncertainty, Ireland is in “a better position than ever” to rebuild its fortunes based on the work of many years.
This is the message the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív gave to delegates at the recent Fianna Fáil Ard-Fheis in Dublin.
Minister Ó Cuív said that in times of crisis, it is often the case that “the importance of community life becomes most obvious”.
As a result, it was imperative that the Government ensures that its policies for rural and urban Ireland accommodate enterprise and business development; population growth; good infrastructure; the retention of rural community structures; and protection of the environment.
“These objectives go to the heart of pursuing the kind of Ireland that Fianna Fáil was founded to bring about in good times and in bad,” he said, “where every citizen can be part of their community and not feel left out or left behind.”
