Major documentary to shed new light on the life, times, and world of 17th century Dutch artist

THE PAINTINGS of the 17th century Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, who depicted domestic interior scenes and is renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light, is the subject of a major new documentary.

Vermeer, Beyond Time, will be screened at the Eye Cinema, Wellpark, on Monday May 22 at 7pm. The documentary, by French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Cottet, comes in advance of the forthcoming Vermeer exhibition and the Masters of Genre Painting: Inspiration and Rivalry, organised by the National Gallery of Ireland in collaboration with the Louvre in Paris, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

the film focuses on Vermeer’s work, his representation of light, the interplay of colour and the effects of perspective across the same themes, places and objects; his family life including his conversion to Catholicism; his artistic contemporaries; and the wider world of the Dutch Golden Age.
