Galway WFC and Shelbourne will tussle for valuable points when they meet in the Continental Tyres WNL on Saturday in Morton Stadium.
Both clubs are on three points with only Kilkenny United below them on the table, so there is much at stake for Billy Cleary's charges.
Last weekend Galway suffered their third defeat when losing to Cork City in Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday evening.
Two goals from Irish international Clare Shine proved to be the difference between the sides, with Cork taking the lead on eight minutes after a Saoirse Noonan lob was turned into the net by Shine from an acute angle.
Lisa Casserly’s 23rd minute shot was Galway’s first effort on goal, but it was dealt with by Amanda Budden. Shortly after, Galway’s impressive Alina Cheatham played a through ball for Aislinn Meaney who was clear in on goal, but her first touch just went a little too far in front of her and was collected by Budden.
After Lynsey McKey was unlucky to see her free kick go wide for the home side, Cork looked to have doubled their lead when Laura Coughlan headed home from a corner, but her effort was ruled out for a push on Shauna Fox.
Galway keeper Tina Hughes was kept on her toes, first to save from a one-on-one with Danielle Sheehy, and then producing a stunning save, tipping the ball over the bar from a powerful Shine strike.
Galway almost levelled in the 81st minute, but Cheatham’s volley in a crowded goalmouth was straight at Budden. Then, in the 94th minute, with Galway having pushed numbers for a free kick on the edge of the box, the ball broke to Shine who counter attacked and finished past Hughes.
