Hope ‘disgusted’ by councillors going to Cheltenham

Bringing forward the March meeting of the Galway City Council by a week to let city councillors attend the Cheltenham Festival is “disgusting” at a time of economic crisis.

This is the view of the Green’s Galway City East candidate James Hope, who said he is “completely stunned at this decision”.

“The country is in the middle of a financial crisis, people in Galway are losing their jobs,” he said, “and a number of councillors re-arrange a council meeting so they can travel to England for a racing festival?”

Mr Hope said he is “disgusted” by the decision and says it demonstrates how “out of touch” the current council is.

“It’s the Galway Race Week Tent politics,” said Mr Hope. “We need councillors with a professional attitude, and this certainly isn't an example of that. It’s time for some major changes on Galway City Council.”
