Cuddy welcomes new local transport service

Oranmore Councillor Jim Cuddy has welcomed the commencement of a new local transport service for Claregalway and Carnmore.

The subsidised bus route is provided by Paul Nash under the Bealach – Connemara Local Transport Partnership and is funded through the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The new service serves Claregalway PO, Carnmore Cross, Greaney Glass premises, Carnmore School, Caherlea, Lydican, Rockroad, Gortatleva, and Lakeview.

The service is also provided in Waterdale and Annaghdown.

“This is free to senior citizens and those with a travel pass and for all others the cost is €3,” Cllr Cuddy said. “This is a wonderful facility, particularly for the elderly living in our community. It meets the needs of individuals who do not have access to public transport and reduces the isolation that some people who live on their own can face, by enabling them to interact with others in the community and carry out tasks such as shopping and collecting their pension.

“I am delighted that this service has been provided locally by Paul Nash and I have no doubt that it will be an important facility for all those living in our community who do not have their own transport.”
