The people of Renmore must get together and take action on the rat-running though estates as the “there has been enough talking and the time has come for some meaningful action”.
This is the view of Independent Cllr Declan McDonnell who said the rat-running “has been getting progressively worse over the last few months”.
He said the traffic calming measures introduced by City Hall at Molloy’s shop, Renmore Park, are “not functioning properly and are not achieving the reduction in rat running as expected”.
Negotiations have been taking place under the auspices of the Renmore Residents’ Association, Cllr McDonnell also wants to see the Galway City Council’s director of services for roads and transportation Ciarán Hayes to enter into “meaningful discussions” with the residents associations’ and local councillors.
“People need to be able to come out their driveways in comfort and not fear a crash or a serious accident,” he said. “The problem needs to be looked at in terms of the overall good of the Renmore area and at the quality of life for all residents of Renmore parish.”
Cllr McDonnell said he will be contacting Mr Hayes to bring all the relevant parties together to help “put the necessary infrastructure in place” to prevent the rat-running which has “extended to all parts of Renmore”.
