Galway WFC are back home on Saturday, keen to return to winning ways when they take on Cork City in Eamonn Deacy Park at 6pm.
Galway will be hoping to repeat their victory over Cork when they last met in the shield quarter-final. In that cracking encounter Galway came back from being 3-0 down to win 5-3, and manager Billy Clery will be hoping his side can reproduce that attacking performance, while tightening up at the back.
They will certainly need to show more scoring prowess than they did last weekend when they travelled to Greenogue in Dublin to take on Peamount United in the Continental Tyres WNL. Despite dominating the game, the lost 2-1 as Peamount proved more clinical with their chances.
Galway played into the elements in the first half and looked to have coped admirably with the Peamount threat until the final minute of the half when a Galway clearance was headed back into the path of Clare Kinsella who finished to the net.
Galway’s best chance of the half had come when Lynsey McKey forced Naoise McAloon to save, and when she was unable to hold onto the ball Aislinn Meaney almost nicked a goal.
Galway WFC continued to dominate in the second half, but still could not convert this onto the scoresheet. Then, against the run of play, a long ball out of defence found Amber Barrett who doubled Peamount's lead on 55 minutes.
Galway continued to press, but it was not until the 88th minute when they managed to pull one back with substitute and debutant Shaunagh Jackson finding the net after getting on the end of a McKey free kick to head home.
