MIND-BLOWING journeys and hair-raising moments amid the last wild corners of the planet, undertaken by ordinary people with a taste for taking on mighty challenges with nature - it's the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
New films about extreme sports, mountaineering, and adventure will be screened at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2017, which comes to the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday May 10.
The films being shown in Galway are Danny MacAskill’s Wee Day Out about what pro-trials cyclist Danny MacAskill does on his days off in the rural landscape around Edinburgh; Dog Power, an insight into the world of dog-powered sports and the special bond that forms between dogs and their owners; Fledglings looks at what happens when professional climbers, Cedar Wright and Matt Segal, take up paragliding.
A highlight could be Four Mums in a Boat, the gripping story of four women from Yorkshire who take on the gruelling Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge – a 3,000 nautical mile journey known as the ‘world’s toughest row.’
Also being screened is Max Your Days, set on Canada’s west coast; Metronomic, the winner of the Best Film – Mountain Sports at the Banff Awards, sees artists and high-level balancing athletes play a high energy symphony, while suspended over the Gorges du Verdon in France; Young Guns, the People’s Choice Award winner for Radical Reels at the Banff Awards, where 15-year-old Ashima Shiraishi and 16-year-old Kai Lightner, tackle one of the Hanshelleren cave in Norway.
