SEAN NÓS dancing and Middle Eastern belly-dancing hardly seem like compatible dance styles, but they will join forces for a special event during Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Sean-nós dancing and belly dancing will meet in Club Áras na nGael, Dominick Street, on Monday March 9.
Sean-nós is an ad-hoc style of solo Irish dancing popular in Connemara that survived the strict regulation of Irish dancing in the 1930s. Over the last 15 years or so, it has enjoyed an enormous revival.
It is individual, stylish, and danced close to the floor, which means you do not need to perform gravity defying leaps. As such sean-nós is a great hobby for all ages.
Belly dancing is the most eloquent of female dances, full of sensual movement, which has inspired many movements in today’s modern dance. It is also known for its beautiful costumes, veils, and coin belts.
Belly dancing is also regarded as an excellent form of exercise which helps strengthen muscle tone and improve posture. It is suitable for women of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels.
