When the vampire stalks Connemara

ThereisBear! to stage new adaptation of Sheridan Le Fanu's classic tale

THE SHADOW Of Carmilla, a new play inspired by one of the greatest vampire stories of all time, 'Carmilla', by Irish Gothic-horror writer Sheridan Le Fanu, will be premiered at the 2017 Galway Theatre Festival.

In the isolation of a post-famine manor in Connemara, the daughter of a landlord is bed-bound by an unexplainable illness. Her father cannot protect her, and the servants, superstitious and fearful, are disinclined to confront the true nature of the illness. Suspicion festers throughout the house, culminating in the clash of languages and cultures between the few remaining tenants.

This is The Shadow of Carmilla/Scáth an tSúmaire, the new, bi-lingual play by Galway's ThereisBear! Theatre Company, which runs at the O'Donoghue Centre, NUI, Galway on Friday April 21 (7pm ), Saturday 22 (8pm ), and Sunday 23 (7pm ). It is directed by Conor Kennedy Burke.

Tickets are €12/14 and are available via galwaytheatrefestival.com or the Town Hall Theatre (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ). See also www.thereisbeartheatre.ie
