Take tea with Rogers and Hackett

A play about the much loved beverage for the Galway Theatre Festival

"TEA IN the morning/tea in the evening/tea at suppertime..." sang Ray Davies in The Kink's 'Have A Cuppa Tea', and music will form one element in a new theatre piece for the Galway Theatre Festival, which looks at the the history and culture of tea.

Tea encompasses theatre, live music, ceremony, and tea and has been created by theatremaker John Rogers and musician/composer Aengus Hackett. The show will mix Eastern tea ceremonies with the custom of the Irish ‘cuppa’, while also investigating the colonial aspects of how tea came to Europe. It draws on Rogers’ work on the Suramedura artist residency in Sri Lanka and Hackett’s explorations of Indonesian music.

Tea will be performed at The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, on Tuesday April 18 (1pm and 7pm ) and Wednesday 19 (9am, 1pm, and 7pm ). Tickets are available from galwaytheatrefestival.com or from the Town Hall Theatre (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ).
