Ziggurat and Atelier to meet residents once Westwood Hotel transaction is complete

Following the news this week that residents in the Bushy Park/Newcastle area are concerned about the sale of the Westwood House Hotel and have held several meetings about the matter, the potential new owners have said that they will very shortly complete the purchase of the Westwood Hotel in Newcastle, Galway, after which they will meet with the residents to allay any concerns.

However, the hotel will remain in use as an hotel until December 2017. A meeting of residents was held on Monday and last night to hear concerns regarding the development, but the new owners say that any concerns will be addressed one the transaction is complete.

The Ziggurat student fund was established to develop 4,000 beds of Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA ) in the Republic of Ireland focussing on Galway, Cork and Dublin. All of its accommodation is managed by Atelier Property Group who are an Irish-based specialist manager of PBSA and who already manage assets in Dublin and Cork.

The fund will, in consultation with Galway City Council (GCC ), work up a scheme for this site that complies with local and national planning rules and is sympathetic to its surroundings.

The completed building will be managed by Atelier who are highly conscious of the fact that the building sits in an existing residential area and who have said that it will benefit from 24/7 on site presence, overnight security cover, CCTV and a zero tolerance policy on any disruptive tenant behaviour.

Once the acquisition is complete, representatives of Ziggurat and Atelier said they intend to meet with local residents to discuss next steps in the redevelopment of the site.
