Gort burglars said they were from County Council
Two men who convinced a Gort man that they were from the County Council, stole money from his house after he let them in.
Gardai in Gort are investigating the incident which occurred at Ballyclery in Kinvara on March 31 between 4 and 5pm.
A local man who was walking home with his bicycle was stopped by two men who stated they were from the County Council and had work to do at his house.
They then proceeded to give him a lift home and when they got there, they stole a quantity of cash from his house.
Gardai are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact them at Gort Garda station on 091 636400.
WEEE collections this weekend in Casla and Oughterard
Galway County Council and WEEE Ireland will be holding a free WEEE Collection for Household Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the county this weekend.. Anything from the home with a plug or a battery will be accepted at the collection.
Collections will take place on Saturday April 8 at Doire an Fhéich, Casla, Co. na Gaillimhe - Casla Industrial Estate and at the GAA pitch in Oughterard from 10am - 4pm.
Items accepted will include all electrical household items radios, iPods, iPads, TVs, remotes, Video and DVD players, consoles and games. IT equipment, hard drives, mobile phones, fluorescent lighting, batteries, electronic toys, power tools, fridges, coolers, washing machines.
Please ensure that all equipment is clean and contains no food substances or other waste as this will result in non-acceptance of the item. Please be advised that this collection is for the domestic sector only.
Are you fighting fit for Latin Quarter white collar boxing event?
The second Latin Quarter White Collar Boxing Event will take place in the Ardilaun Hotel on June 11. This year’s charity is Galway Diocesan Youth Services, who deal with issues like homelessness, education and counselling for young people in Galway. You can find out more about them on www.gdys.org.The training begins in Black Dragon on April 18 at 6pm, and takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm for eight weeks.
There are also optional classes on Saturdays.No experience is necessary, all fitness levels are welcome (from just-off-the-couch to run-a-marathon-weekly ), and all ages from 18-80 can apply. This event is about raising money and awareness for Galway Diocesan Youth Services, and also about trying to get people to get active and healthy. Last year’s event was a huge success, and made a big impact on the lives of several of the people who took part.
Organisers are looking for 40 fighters in total, and still have spaces open. Last year’s fight was for Blood Bike West who, as a direct result of the efforts of the Latin Quarter, were able to purchase a fourth motorbike and extend their services. They undertook their 100th call of 2017 last week, which was a point they didn’t get to until June 2016.
