Gift ideas for children that aren’t money

Communion and Confirmation season are in full swing and there are always birthday presents to buy. It can be difficult to think up gift ideas for children and teens that aren’t money. So we have put our heads together and come up with some that will appeal to all ages.

A piñata is always a fun gift to receive. You can buy them pre-filled or fill them with your own goodies.

A canvas print created using a photo is a lovely memento to gift a child or adult. Or you could take a photo and get it made into a jigsaw. There are many shops in Galway and online that offer these services.

Getting an Ice Cream Van to visit the party will wow all the guests. There are several vans in Galway who can be hired to surprise guests.

There are some great outdoor game sets available to buy e.g. giant jenga or connect 4, a tennis or badminton set, swingball, large skipping rope, jump elastics, or a goal net . They can all be used on the day and will give the child many hours of fun into the future.

Personalised gifts from teddies with the name and date embroidered onto them to personalised prints are always a hit and are the perfect memento of their special day.

The promise of an adventure day out will give the child something to look forward to after the party day is over. From karting to gorge walking, gold panning at Glengowla Mines to kayaking or paddleboarding in Galway bay or a trip to the dogs, there are loads of fun adventures to be had on our doorstep.

A boxed set of books or an audio cd for the car are gifts that can be enjoyed for a long time after the big day. Find out what authors they like or surprise them with something different they may not have thought of reading.

Art supplies or stationery including notebooks, markers, doodle pads, stickers, highlighters, novelty erasers, journals, sharpies, stamping pads or supplies like craft glue to create slime will all be well received.

Headphones for listening to music, watching programs online or just chatting to their friends as they get on with life are a good gift. Prices vary wildly so do take advice from experts on what is the best product for the child’s needs.

Room accessories including cushions, bean bags, wall art, bedding, throws, string lights etc. will be welcomed by children of all ages. Do check before you buy for colour schemes and what the child may already have.

From hair accessories, straighteners, curling wands, dryers, to a gift set of hair care products or a treatment at the barbers or hairdressers, slightly older children will enjoy having good hair days with their gift.

If you know what sports the child is interested in consider getting them some sports equipment for their hobby. Or if they follow a particular team how about a jersey?

Hopefully we have equipped you with some ideas. If you are searching for gifts by age, check out www.mykidstime.com for guides to gifts for toddlers to teens and everyone in between.
