Damien Dempsey - hbound for Galway in June

Singer-songwriter to release new album Soulsun in May

DAMIEN DEMPSEY, deservedly described by The Guardian as "one of Ireland’s great singer-songwriters" and by The Daily Express as "one astonishingly gifted individual", returns to Galway this summer.

Damien plays The Black Box Theatre on Thursday June 8 at 8pm, as part of an Irish tour to promote his forthcoming album, Soulsun. The new album is out on May 26, and as the singer-songwriter said of it in a recent Facebook post: “I'm feeling very grateful and lucky to still be writing and playing music to growing audiences who don’t forget me even when I disappear for a while. I can’t wait to bring these new songs of hope and redemption to people this summer, it's time to lift some hearts."

When I interviewed Damien last year as he was working on the album, he said: "I want to give people hope in the music, to help them through dark times, and include some of the wisdom I've picked up along the way. I never want to repeat myself from album to album, and Soul Son will be a bit different."

The concert is a 'Monroe's presents...' event. Tickets are €29 plus booking fee, and are available from the Town Hall (www.tht.ie, 091 - 569777 ); www.monroes.ie; and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street. See also www.damiendempsey.com
