Thieves ransacked apartment on Tuam Road
Gardai in the city are probing an incident in which thieves broke into an apartment on the Tuam Road last week.
Between the hours of 1pm on March 14 and 3am on March 19, an apartment at Ashbrook, Tuam Road, Galway was broken into by an intruder.
During the incident, the front door was forced open and access was gained into the house.
Once inside, the apartment was ransacked and left in a dust of disrepair, before the thieves made away with some jewellery.

Ó Cuív calls for “real time” Garda Station
opening hours to be published on website
Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West Éamon Ó Cuív has called on An Garda Síochána to post “real time” opening hours for rural Garda stations on its website. He says the move would eliminate confusion and ensure that people could attend their local station when it is open for business.
Deputy Ó Cuív said that many rural Garda stations have nominal opening hours, usually between 10am and 1pm, but the reality is that very few are actually open and people needing to attend their local station end up making wasted journeys, which is both frustrating and time consuming.
Simple tasks such as getting a passport stamped can become a major stumbling block, with people having to travel to multiple stations before finding one that’s open.“
I have suggested to An Garda Síochána that a way of solving this issue would be to update the “real time” opening hours of each station on the Garda website so that people can check which stations are open before setting out on a journey.
“I have been informed by the Commissioner’s office that the Garda website is currently under review and that plans are afoot to publish scheduled opening times.
“However, I am calling on management to go further than this – there is no point in publishing scheduled opening times, if they are rarely adhered to. We need the “real time” opening hours to be uploaded and updated so that people know which stations are open and when. I will be continuing to pursue this issue with the relevant personnel,” he said.
Hibernia College brings teaching roadshow to Galway
Hibernia College’s annual Roadshow will be at the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway on Wednesday March 29 from 6pm – 8pm.
The Roadshow will be touring Ireland from the 21st to 30th March, where tutors, staff and students will be on hand to offer advice and answer questions about the Primary and Post Primary teacher education programmes.
Attendees will hear from both primary and post primary tutors from Hibernia College and will have the opportunity to ask questions about the entry requirements and interview process.
Current and past students will also be in attendance to give their feedback and thoughts on the programmes offered by Hibernia. The Roadshow aims to provide prospective Galway students with all the information they need about becoming a teacher, from the theory behind the course, to the challenges and rewards of a teaching career.
