Gardai prove city aggravated burglary and attack on elderly man

Gardai in the city are hunting a man who tried to break into a house in the city last week, and attacked an elderly man.

The incident of aggravated burglary took place at an address at Glenview Drive, Tuam Rd, Galway which occurred between the hours of 11pm on March 16 and 1am on March 17.

An elderly man was awoken from his sleep to the sound of heavy banging at front door. When he went to answer, he was met by a male who attacked him, threatening him with a sharp implement possibly a knife.

The intruder demanded money and the man fought him off a few times before he left without getting anything. The elderly man was very shaken as a result and received a minor cut to his hand for which he was treated in hospital.

Anyone who may have witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area on that day or in the late evening or who may have information about this incident are asked to contact Galway Gardai on 091 538000.

Thieves ransacked apartment on Tuam Road

Gardai in the city are probing an incident in which thieves broke into an apartment on the Tuam Road last week.

Between the hours of 1pm on March 14 and 3am on March 19, an apartment at Ashbrook, Tuam Road, Galway was broken into by an intruder.

During the incident, the front door was forced open and access was gained into the house.

Once inside, the apartment was ransacked and left in a dust of disrepair, before the thieves made away with some jewellery.
