Man being questioned in relation to Mervue fatal assault released without charge

A man in his 60s arrested as part of the investigation into a fatal assault in Mervue yesterday (Sunday ) has been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The victim of the fatal assault has been named locally as Christy McGrath, a 39-year-old from Galway city.

It is believed he lived for a time at the house on Cardinal Cushing Road in Mervue where the incident took place shortly after 4am.

Investigating Gardai are continuing to appeal to anyone who can assist them to contact the incident room at Galway Garda Station.

They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any altercation involving males on the Old Dublin Road / Cardinal Cushing Road in the Mervue area between 12 midnight and 4am on Sunday (12/3/2017 ) to contact them.
