.
Fiona, from Spiddal, Co. Galway, and Martina, from Wexford, first met while studying Fine Art Painting in the Limerick School of Art and Design in 1992. Fiona went onto further her artistic studies in Galway, Cork, Belfast and Dublin, while Martina moved to London, where she lived and worked for 18 years. Both continued to paint and develop their own individual styles and techniques, all the time bouncing ideas and theories off each other. Martina moved back to Wexford, where she opened The Paintbox Studio and Gallery in Oulart, Co. Wexford, in 2015.
Fiona returned to her home of Spiddal, where she began to paint the landscape surrounding her, a departure from her previous work. Colour has always been Fiona's main interest, capturing the ever changing light that creates the dramatic skies and landscape of the West of Ireland. She is currently working on a series of Watercolour paintings which capture some of Galway's best known landmarks - The Long Walk, Galway Cathedral, as well as images of Irish Wildlife and Skyscapes.
.
Martina paints colourful, textured landscapes and abstracts. Her work is inspired by the rugged, magical quality of the Irish landscape and the many other intriguing things she encounters every day. In her work she likes to mix reality with memories and imagination and paint her own interpretation of it using various tools, such as twigs, scrapers and wire brushes as well as the traditional brush and pallet knife to apply paint.
So, if you know anyone who will be in London for the St Patrick's Day Festival, pop up to Stand 4 - in front of the National Gallery, and say hello, we can't wait to join in on the festivities!
Both artists have their work for sale on their websites - www.fionaconcannonartist.com, and www.martinafurlong.com, and you can follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
