Gardai seek witnesses to city collision
Gardai in the city are looking for witnesses to an incident which took place early last month.
At approximately 8.30am on February 8, a collision occurred between a cyclist and a motorist at the junction of the Castlepark road and the Old Monivea road.
The motorist fled the scene of the accident.
There was a lot of traffic in the area at the time, so it is believed that there are witnesses to the incident who might be able to help.
Gardai in Galway are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have information relating to this incident to contact them on 091 538000.
Ó Conchúir calls for more traffic calming on Shantalla Road
The installation of traffic speed indicators on Shantalla Road is welcome but can only be seen as a first step towards curbing speeding on the road, according to Sinn Féin city councillor Cathal Ó Conchúir.
Cllr Ó Conchúir is calling for additional traffic calming measures to be put in place in the area as soon as possible, as speeding “is an issue residents have been concerned about for some time”.
However he did praise the Galway City Council for the traffic calming measures and pedestrian crossings on the Western Distributor Road, and the work of city council engineers on a problematic storm drain on University Road which had long been subject to persistent flooding.
Hubcab thief
Gardai in Craughwell are investigating the theft of four hubcaps from a car in the village last week.
Between 7pm and 11pm on March 1, four hubcaps were stolen from a silver Ford Focus while parked outside the Community Hall in Craughwell.

Marathon runners needed
Galway based charity Breast Cancer Research is urging local women to take part in this year’s VHI Women’s Mini Marathon on Monday June 5 to raise vital funds for the charity.
The organisation, formerly known as the National Breast Cancer Research Institute, is based at UHG. It funds a comprehensive research programme at NUI Galway led by Professor Michael Kerin. It aims to greatly improve the future outcomes for breast cancer patients through research.
The marathon is the biggest women’s event of its kind in the world and women can walk, jog or run to take part and help raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Research.

Criminal damage to houses
Gardai in the county are looking for help in tracking down the culprits who caused criminal damage to houses over the past two weeks.
On February 28 at about 6pm the front patio window was broken using a stone at a house in Country Meadows, Cloontua, Tuam.
Any witnesses to this incident are asked to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840.
On March 1 at 8pm the front window of a house in the An Sean Bhaile estate in Doughiska was broken by vandals.
