Galway Community College (GCC ) has been serving the educational needs of the people of Galway since 1969 and is situated close to the city centre at Moneenageisha junction. GCC continues to offer a broad range of Level 5 and 6 QQI courses in a variety of disciplines. The courses provided are designed to offer the best in education and training for school leavers and for people wishing to enhance their professional development or to change their career.
GCC's tutors are continually developing new courses and modules in line with industry trends in employment and links to higher education. The new science course, biomedical science and laboratory studies, introduced last September, had to limit its intake due to the high volumes of applicants in 2016. Level 6 business and Level 5 equine studies have also had strong uptake last year with Level 6 equine studies being introduced in September 2017.
The college maintains strong links with many institutes of higher education and the recent agreement between GCC and GMIT involves aligning GCC’s Level 6 further education programmes with GMIT degrees. This allows GCC students advanced entry directly into the second year of a GMIT programme. GCC provides Level 6 courses in many disciplines including business, sport, TV and film, equine, childcare, and IT.
GCC has developed strong links to local businesses with work experience offered in six specialist departments — social care, business IT and secretarial, graphic design and motor technology, film, music and theatre, sport, and science and horticulture.
While studying in GCC you can be guaranteed expert tuition, modern facilities, career guidance for progression to higher education, and a friendly atmosphere. GCC continues to be the only college in the west of Ireland which can offer the UL accredited Certificate in health and fitness CEHF, which is gold standard in the leisure industry.
On completion of a PLC course a maximum of 390 CAO points can be achieved for your progression to third level education. Successful completion and certification of a QQI level 5 course allows you to apply through the CAO system. Close ties with industry in Galway city and county and a focus on third level education are key factors in what has made the PLC College at GCC a centre of excellence.
Online application for all courses is now open at www.galwaycc.ie
An open day for all prospective students will take place on Tuesday March 7 from 9am to 4pm.
