Lïnger - a 'powerful exploration of gay masculinity'

Acclaimed contemporary dance show from former Riverdance principal dancer, Breandán de Gallaí

IT HAS been called "a must-see full-on theatrical show", one which possibly redefines and expands Irish dance. This is Lïnger, a contemporary dance work from former Riverdance principal dancer, Breandán de Gallaí.

Lïnger, choreographed and directed by Breandán de Gallaí, and featuring dancers de Gallaí and Nick O’Connell, will be performed in the Town Hall Theatre on Thursday March 16 at 8pm.

The show explores identity, sexuality, and ageing, through music, movement, live drawing, photography by Declan English, and film by Terry O’Leary, to reflect on the passage of time and who we are at various junctures of our lives. In the show, de Gallaí also strives to bring a fresh perspective to the form of traditional Irish dance

"I wanted to focus on exploring the capacity of Irish dance," de Gallaí says. " I wanted to see what the dance could do in terms of evoking emotions, and use its expressive potential to address issues and themes rarely explored in traditional dance. Lïnger is also a meditation on masculinity, a concept that can mean many things, and it aims to leave the viewer a little closer to understanding its complexity."

Dr Jools Gilson has written of the show: “Lïnger is a powerfully tender and muscular exploration of Irish gay masculinity. De Gallaí spins an aching narrative, where the extraordinary percussive virtuosity of Irish traditional dance is haunted with the taste of repression. Just gorgeous - moving and chilling in equal parts.”

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
