Gardaí seek witnesses to December assault
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an assault that occurred in the city centre last December to come forward.
The incident took place between Jury’s Inn and Wolfe Tone Bridge on December 3 between 2.30am and 3am. A man was queuing for a taxi along with his wife and a friend when there was a disagreement over a taxi fare. The man was punched in the jaw by an unknown assailant; the man who punched him then walked off across the bridge in the direction of Galway Fire Station.
A number of people were present at the time of the assault. The injured party suffered a fractured jaw as a result of being punched. Anyone who witnessed this assault is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538025.
O’Malley clan to hold annual gathering in Galway
A call has gone out across Ireland and the world to all the O’Malley clan to come to Galway this June for the 63rd Annual Gathering.
Clan chieftain Sarah Kelly, granddaughter of the gathering founder, the late Professor Conor O’Malley, has prepared a busy programme of events from Friday June 23 until the following Sunday afternoon, June 25.
Events will include a coach tour to many of Galway’s fascinating historical sites, a medieval banquet, walks, talks, and fun, and, of course, the famous Gathering. This is not to be missed if you have a drop of O’Malley blood in your veins.

30 new jobs created in Galway by GeoScience companies — Kyne
Minister of State Seán Kyne has today welcomed the figures just published which show that 30 new jobs were created in Galway in 2016 by Geoscience Ireland member companies.
An agency of the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Geoscience Ireland is working in partnership with Enterprise Ireland to create and maintain jobs in the geoscience sector in Ireland.
“With 30 new jobs created by Galway-based Geoscience Ireland member companies in 2016 Galway is the strongest growing region accounting for 17% of the job creation nationally, second only to Dublin.
