Dancing along Ireland's coastline

Derry's Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company too stage The Cove in Galway

"A MULTI-layered meditation on overcoming the constant force of gravity, and the fear of falling, in order to achieve the joyous freedom of the peak” is how Irish Theatre Magazine described The Cove.

The Cove, a dance performance by Derry's Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company is coming to the Black Box Theatre on Tuesday February 21 at 8pm. Through a changing environment of large, reflective, blocks, a woman climbs, sits, contemplates, and is enfolded by the spirit of the place. The show seeks to reflect on the experience, and the beauty, of the Irish coast and its embodiment in movement.

The show is directed and choreographed by Echo Echo artistic director Steve Batts, and features an original score by Christopher Norby. The installation was created by Dan Shipsides.

"The Cove has been maturing and developing since it was first presented in 2012," says Batts. "It now has a more narrative form than when it was first presented but the core of the work in “embodying landscape”, the direct physical, sensory and emotional response to the natural world, has strengthened and deepened. From experience we know that people who love the outdoors, particularly the coast, really enjoy watching the piece."
