The Calasanctius College swim team certainly made a splash at the recent Connacht Secondary School swim finals, bringing home an impressive half of nine medals with many swimmers qualifying for the inter-pro event to be held in Dublin in two month’s time.
The Calasanctius Swim Team, made up of Paula Crisan (1st Year ), Caoimhe Dowling (5th Year ), Fionn Duffy (Jnr Cert ), Aoife Leahy (2nd Year ), Sorcha Kearney (2nd Year ) Caoilin Kearney (1st Year ), Eoin McDermott (1st year ), Charlotte Mooney (5th Year ), Lucy O’Dea (1st Year ), Robin Pfieffer (2nd Year ), Ben Vahey (Leaving Cert ) Jake Van de Beek (1st year ) bagged a massive nine medals at the Connacht Secondary Schools Swim finals held in Athlone.
Competing against 40 other secondary schools from Connacht, the Calasanctius swim team of twelve swimmers was one of the biggest school teams on the day. swimmers achieved personal bests in their swims and did their school proud.
Results were as follows: Caoimhe Dowling – two gold – 100m backstroke & 200IM, Fionn Duffy - one gold (100m backstroke ), one silver(100m butterfly ), Aoife Leahy two silver(100/400 freestyle ) one bronze (100 backstroke ), Ben Vahey – one silver(100m breaststroke ), Robin Pfieffer – one silver (200IM ) The Intermediate Relay team made up of Charlotte Mooney, Sorcha Kearney, Aoife Leahy and Caoimhe Dowling came an agonising fourth place in both their freestyle and Medley relays.
All the medal winners will now go forward to represent Connacht in the Interprovincial Competition to be held in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at the end of April.
