Sarsfields are through to the AIB All-Ireland senior camogie final after a tough battle with Thomastown at St Brendan's Park, Birr, on Sunday.
At the end of a dogged affair, the Galway women prevailed by 0-8 to 0-7 to set up a date with Derry champions Slaughtneil on March 5 in Croke Park.
Sarsfields needed to dig deep to come back from a 0-5 to 0-1 deficit at half time with Niamh McGrath having produced the only score before Thomastown took control.
Whatever manager ‘Hopper’ McGrath said to his players at the break, they came out recharged. Maria Cooney and Clara Donohue were both to the fore, while Kate Gallagher took on her midfield opponent as they ground their way back into the game.
Three McGrath frees produced the momentum on the scoreboard, and when sister Clodagh levelled and then gave them the lead from 60 metres, the Galway women were back in contention.
Niamh Donnelly levelled with eight minutes remaining for Thomastown, and as it headed towards injury time, both freetakers exchanged points. However McGrath showed real composure to convert a 45 to seal a super win.
There was no luck, however, for Galway's Cappataggle in the intermediate semi-final, losing to Myshall by 1-8 to 0-8.
Level 0-4 at the break, Cappataggle's Amy Treacy pushed her side ahead after the break before Myshall grabbed the goal six minutes into the second half from a free. However Michelle Skehill and Laura Creaven reduced the margin to a goal, but Leah Treacy's goal-bound effort was brilliantly saved by Joanne Joyce.
