Maree are celebrating success on the courts with a comprehensive 71-42 victory in Hula Hoops Women’s National Intermediate Cup final.
The Galway women proved too strong for Limerick Celtics, driven by a super MVP performance from Dayna Finn, and 10 points and 20 rebounds from Michelle Fahy.
Maree enjoyed the better first quarter, and as Limerick Celtics struggled to score, Maree used fast breaks with all the starting five players picking up scores for a 18-12 lead.
Although Celtics improved their defence to stop the Maree fast break, Dayna Finn picked up scores working through Celtics’ zone, and, taking advantage of free throws, Mareee pulled away to a 38-21 half-time lead.
Celtics’ Nadine Rice picked up a couple of scores to try to swing momentum their way, but Dayna Finn replied. Celtics’ Michelle Aspell and Maree’s Michelle Fahy both started to come into their own towards the end of the quarter, but Maree was still ahead, 55-34.
Finn continued to lead for Maree, scoring the first five points of the final quarter, but although Celtics attacked valiantly, the Maree women were too hot on the day.
