Athenry Golf Club - more than just golf

Choosing the right club can be a difficult decision. There are many golf clubs in Co Galway, each with its own unique blend of offerings. But in addition to the normal considerations of cost, tee-time availability, etc, the golfer also needs to think about the course layout.

Athenry golf course provides all level of golfers with a challenging and fair test of golf, says chairman Martin Noonan.

"It has gentle fairway undulations and no steep hills or valleys to navigate. Being relatively flat means golfers can play the course into their most senior years. The course lends itself to walking, and an 18 hole game can be played in or around four hours."

The course has tree lined fairways, and does not suffer from excessive wind. The course is well known for its exceptionally well-groomed fairways and impeccable greens. Major drainage improvements will be undertaken early this year which will make the course playable practically on a year-round basis.

Beyond the course and amenities, each club has its own particular "feel", and Athenry Golf Club is about much more than golf, says Noonan. "Ask any member who plays here, and they will tell you about the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and the great relationships they have made through their membership.

"At Athenry Golf Club we pride ourselves on the friendship, camaraderie, competition and a shared passion for one of the greatest sports you can play. ”
