Galway Simon seeks local women to run in support of homeless

The Galway Simon Community is calling on Galway women to “put homelessness on the run” by taking part in the 2009 Flora Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin on Monday June 1.

Barry McCann, community fundraiser for Galway Simon said that 20 per cent of the people in Simon’s housing projects are women.

“Women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are extremely vulnerable but we are appealing to the women of Galway to help us to provide as wide a range of accommodation and service options as possible to women who seek our support,” he said.

Entry forms for the marathon will be available from February 26 at www.womensminimarathon.ie and in the Evening Herald every Thursday and Saturday. The closing date is April 21.

Those wishing to take part can contact the Barry on 091 - 589415 for further details and to receive a sponsorship pack and free T-shirt.
