STEVE BENNETT will host his final Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh show - for the time being - tomorrow night [Friday January 13] , before he takes a trip 'down under' to perform at Australia's Perth and Adelaide comedy festivals.
Steve's journey to Oz is as a result of his winning the 2016 Irish Comedian Of The Year competition. “To be honest I’m glad he’s going,” jokes Clubh co-runner Kevin Healy. “The place will be a little bit less hipster until late March. Then he’ll come back all confident and better at comedy and I’ll have to listen to ukuleles and clean up beard hairs again. But for now, the Clubh is being left in safe hands with some great guest MCs including Karl Spain and Aine Gallagher, who is one of our Tuesday Showcase hosts.”
Steve will still be working behind the scenes, pulling the levers behind the curtain (wizard style ) from the other side of the globe, choosing the best comedians to play at the Clubh each week.
Before then, Steve will host Totally Wired at the Clubh tomorrow from 9pm. Ireland’s oldest and least successful boyband, Totally Wired did score a YouTube hit with 'Gay Best Friend' which was also shown on Republic of Telly. However they are no one hit wonders, but seasoned pros of the comedy scene, regulars at the Laughter Lounge, the International club, and numerous festivals and clubs in Britain. Expect catchy tunes, sing-along fun, and big laughs.
Support is from American comic and 2016 Irish Comedian Of The Year runner-up, Jim Elliot, and Stephen Bradley . Tickets are €8/10.12.50 from the Róisín Dubh; roisindubh.net; and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street.
