Show Me The Funny returns for 2017

Fred Cooke is special guest for opening night

SHOW ME The Funny, Ireland's biggest competition for up and coming comedians, returns to The King's Head for 2017 with the first of five heats taking place on Monday January 16 at 8pm.

Monday will see eight contestants vying for a place in the grand final on Monday February 20. The eventual winner will perform at the Electric Picnic Comedy Tent, with the runners up also getting slots at various festivals in 2017. Each heat will be judged by a panel of industry experts and there will also be an audience vote.

The MC will be Gerry Mallon. There will also be a special guest each week. Monday's guest will be Fred Cooke. Past winners, including Steve Bennett (2015 ) and Niamh Marron (2013 ), and finalists Al Porter (2015 ) and Kevin McGarhen (2012 ) have used the competition as a springboard in their careers and are now established on the circuit.

The event is sponsored by Bulmers. Admission is €5 and audience members will gain free entry into a draw for a VIP weekend ticket for next year's Electric Picnic.
