NUIG hosts Cheltenham Preview for African aid

The flagship of British steeplechase horse racing, the Cheltenham Festival, is just around the corner, and Galway followers can enjoy some hot tips at this year’s NUIG Cheltenham Preview on Sunday March 1.

The Salthill Hotel will again host the event, in aid of Direct Aid for Africa, in association with John Mulholland Bookmakers.

The panel will be chaired by Racing Post chief executive Alan Byrne, and is composed of legendary punter Barney Curley, trainer Philip Hobbs, Racing Post journalist Matt Williams, jockey Paddy Brennan – a Galway native, and Sunday Times expert Donn McClean.

There will also be phone interviews on the night with leading racing experts. As always, video footage of all the main contenders will be shown on the night.

RTE television presenter Hector Ó hEochagáin will also be present to entertain and get the views of the crowd.

NUI Galway’s Horse Racing Society, in association with John Mulholland Bookmakers, is hoping to continue its success in raising funds for DAFA. In the last five years more than €110,000 has been raised for the charity, founded by Barney Curley.

Every cent raised through ticket sales, sponsorship raffles, and donations, goes directly to the charity.

Tickets to the event are €20, which includes a €10 free bet on the Champion Hurdle courtesy of John Mulholland Bookmakers.

Tickets are on sale at all offices of John Mulholland Bookmakers. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night.

Doors open at 7.30pm with events getting underway at 8.15pm. For further information contact Ronan Byrnes 087-9284865.
