CASS MCCOMBS, “one of the most compelling singer-songwriters of the past decade", according to Uncut, and “arguably the greatest American singer-songwriter of this generation”, say Vice, is coming to Galway.
McCombs, whose last visit to this city was during the 2014 arts festival, will play the Róisín Dubh, on Saturday January 21 at 8pm, where he will also be joined by his band.
Since his debut album A in 2003, the California native has mixed rock, folk, psychedelia, punk, and Americana - even touches of hip-hop and Beat poetry - across nine albums, but his latest, last year's Mangy Love, is regarded by many as his finest, and made the Pitchfork, MOJO, Stereogum, and American Songwriter, best albums of 2016 lists.
Pitchfork's Sam Sodomsky, called Mangy Love, McCombs' "most revealing album, his most political, and his funniest yet. Across its twelve songs, McCombs dabbles in his deadpan surrealism, throws in a few well-placed toilet jokes, and even shares some of his Twitter drafts...Mangy Love’s first half feels something like a crash course through his last fifteen years of songwriting."
