GMIT graduates raise €34,000 for Croi

Members of the GMIT Business Studies Graduates Association led by Mary A Cunningham raised €34,000 for local heart charity, Croi, this year.

The money was raised through several fundraising projects, particularly the annual gala Christmas cabaret, which is always a a major success.

“This year, despite the recession, hundreds turned up for yet another brilliant cabaret,” says Ms Cunningham. “The guest star was the internationally famous Fr Liam Lawton, singer/composer who gave a brilliant performance and received several standing ovations. Also taking part were Mark Keane (piano ) and Friends, a versatile group performing a fusion of styles including Spanish, Cuban and jazz.

“The internationally famous tango dancers, Marion and Enrique, gave a brilliant performance, and the Celine Hession School of Irish Dance was also outstanding. Prior to the cabaret, the Galway Chamber Choir, conducted by Mark Keane, sang a wide selection of popular well loved Christmas carols in the foyer. Freddy Byrne and The Guinness Jazz Band also gave a brilliant performance.”

The producer/director of the cabaret was Ms Cunningham while the stage manager/MC was Sten Pears.
