AHEAD OF their performances at the Cleansing Lights Festival in Munich this weekend, Ten Ton Slug and Weed Priest - two of the county's finest metal bands - will play a show in Galway city on Thursday.
Ten Ton Slug play "sludge groove metal" according to the band's founders, Connemara brothers Seán and Micheal Sullivan. In 2015 the band released a well received two-track demo ‘Live at the Oaks’ and have gigged extensively since, notably winning the Metal 2 the Masses Ireland competition in May this year, and playing the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Festival 2016 in Britain. October saw the released of their debut EP, Brutal Gluttonous Beast, which the band will perform at Thursday's show.
Weed Priest are known as purveyors of occult sludge doom metal. Since their formation in 2009 they have released a demo CD (2011 ), a full length self titled album (2013 ), the EP Worship (2014 ) ,and a split single with Northern Irish band Astralnaut (2015 ). Their new release - a split EP vinyl with Italian doomsters Black Capricorn was released in September trough DHU records in Holland. It features a lengthy, sludgy, and heavy take on the Gerschwin classic 'Summertime'.
Ten Ton Slug and Weed Priest play Sally Longs on Thursday December 15 at 8.30pm. The concert is organised by HexenHaus. Admission is free. The bands play Cleansing Lights on Saturday December 17.
